The school now known as Annunciation Schools is a catholic mission school owned by the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki. The school started as a nursery school on September 19, 1999 with a small population of nine (9) children but academically wonderful. Since then, the school has continued to blossom and flourish, spreading from nursery through primary to the present day secondary school.
The secondary section now known as Annunciation Secondary School started on October, 2006 with a total number of sixty two (62) students and six (6) tutorial staff and four (4) non-tutorial staff.
The school had Rev. Fr. Dr. John Okwaeze Odeh as the founder and the first principal of the school. Since that point, he continued to manage and develop the school, making effort to move the school to the greater height. This was until the another principal took over from him. He handed over the school administration/management to Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Njoku on September, 2009 as the second principal of the school. He is a visionary and a promising priest who is ready at any time to take the school to the Promised Land. This has been testified from the numerous projects he started up. However, the quest for more enlightenment saw the second principal leaving the school and travelling for further studies. In order to fill in the vacuum created by the absence of Rev. Fr. Emma Njoku, the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki handed over the mantle of leadership and administration to the current principal, Rev. Fr. Obijiofor Livinus in November 2012. He has remained the principal till date and under him the school has soared to unimaginable heights.
The progress of the school has been a gradual one; just like the biblical mustard seed that grew out of nothing. Ever since then, it has steadily experienced growth in all ramifications; moral, intellectual, structural and otherwise. It began just like any other small beginnings, without actually projecting into the future how colossal it would be but today, the school has become some enormous—what was begun in a very small nutshell has grown into a mighty tree as of present.
Annunciation is one of the schools in the state to have emerged victorious in series of competitions held both within the state and outside the state. Our students have performed excellently well and came second in the Bishop Shanahan Quiz Competition of 2013; the Cowbell Mathematics competition of 2013 also saw our student as one of the best performing three out of the numerous schools in the entire nation. We have also taken lead in numerous sports competitions within and outside the state ranging from emerging as the football champion of the All Mission School Games of 2013, overall champion of Edon’s Cup of 2014: and overall winner of Drama/Dance/Singing competition of 2014 held at Madonna Secondary School, Umuhuali. In the area of external examinations, the school has always recorded 96-99% excellence in WASSCE and NECO. These have always been points of references to the fact that the teachers and the administration are up and doing in their respective tasks in seeing to the academic and other necessary buildups of the students. These and a host of other achievements have graced this noble institution.
